Russia, the world’s third biggest wheat exporter, has harvested almost 1 million metric tons of grain for the 2012-13 marketing year.
Average yields were 2.8 tons a hectare (2.47 acres), down from 4.8 tons a year earlier, the ministry said in a statement on its website today. The marketing year starts July 1.
The wheat crop will be 49 million to 50 million tons for 2012-13, Dmitry Bobkov, the Agriculture Ministry’s spokesman, said yesterday. The current season’s wheat production is 56.2 million tons, according to state statistics data.
