Russian Equity Movers: Aeroflot, Bank St Petersburg, Mechel

The 30-stock Micex Index (INDEXCF) climbed 1 percent to 1,342.82 by the close in Moscow, gaining for the first time in five days. The dollar-denominated RTS Index advanced 2.1 percent to 1,288.67.

The following are among the most active equities in the Russian market today. Stock symbols are in parenthesis.

OAO Aeroflot (AFLT RX) added 0.7 percent to 42.44 rubles, the most since June 18. Shares rose for the first day in six on bets the election of Russian opposition leader and anti- corruption blogger Alexey Navalny to the state-controlled airline’s board will improve efficiency.

Bank St. Petersburg (BSPB RX) lost 0.2 percent to 54.63 rubles, the lowest level since June 4. The shares dropped after Citigroup Inc. cut its price estimate by 32 percent and removed the regional lender from its top stock picks on disappointing earnings.

OAO Mechel (MTLR) gained 0.3 percent to 190.60 rubles, the most since June 21. OAO Severstal (CHMF RX) rose 0.6 percent to 377.80 rubles. Russia’s biggest producer of coking-coal for steelmakers and the country’s second-largest steelmaker rose on a forecast domestic product demand may jump 56 percent by 2020.
