Samaras to Name New Greek Government as Euro Area Ministers Meet

Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras named Vassilios Rapanos, the chairman of National Bank of Greece SA, the biggest bank, as his finance minister.

Demetris Avramopolous, a former mayor of Athens and former minister of defense, tourism and health, was named foreign minister, according to a list of the new ministers announced by new government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou.

Samaras was sworn in as prime minister yesterday at the head of a government supported by his New Democracy party, socialist Pasok and Democratic Left. The new cabinet will meet at 8 p.m. today, immediately after being sworn in. The government will propose Evangelos Meimarakis as speaker of Parliament.
