Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSA) commissioned a $500 million distillate desulfurization at its Pernis refinery in Rotterdam.
The new facility will enable the refiner to increase the production of low-sulfur diesel and heating oil, according to an e-mailed statement from the company based in The Hague.
Pernis, Europe’s biggest refinery, has a capacity of about 400,000 barrels a day, according to Shell’s website.
