Croatia Wins 3-1 Against Ireland in Euro 2012 Group C Match

Mario Mandzukic got two goals as Croatia beat Ireland 3-1 today to lead Group C at soccer’s European Championship after the first round of matches.

Nikica Jelavic also scored for the two-time quarterfinalist in Poznan, Poland, with Sean St. Ledger getting Ireland’s goal. Defending champion Spain tied 1-1 against Italy in today’s other game.

Croatia is making its third straight appearance at the tournament, while Ireland last qualified in 1988. Ireland’s Giovanni Trapattoni today became the oldest coach at a European Championship at age 73 years, 85 days.
