Barbara Walters Apologizes for Syrian Ties, Telegraph Reports

Barbara Walters, co-host of ABC Television’s “The View,” apologized for using her influence to try and get a TV internship for the daughter of Syria’s United Nations envoy, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Walters, 82, apologized for trying to further the career of Sheherazad Jaafari by using her influence to try and obtainn her a place at Columbia University and an internship on Piers Morgan’s CNN show, the Telegraph reported, citing emails it had seen.

Walters, who interviewed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December last year, issued a statement saying she realised her efforts to find a job or university place for Jaafari, who was close to Assad, “created a conflict and I regret that,” the newspaper said.
