Russian Consul in Japan Dies After Accidental Fall Into Ravine

Vladimir Pushkov, Russian consul general in Japan, died yesterday after falling into a 50-meter (164-foot) deep ravine near Niigata, Rossiya 24 reported.

Pushkov slipped into the gully while playing volleyball with friends at a picnic to celebrate his 55th birthday, the state television channel reported. Another Russian diplomat damaged his spine, Rossiya 24 said.
