England was bowled out for 428 in its first innings on day three of the second cricket Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, a lead of 58 over the West Indies.
Tim Bresnan finished unbeaten on 39. Captain Andrew Strauss top-scored with 141, while Kevin Pietersen made 80.
England won the first Test by 5 wickets at Lord’s in London, and needs to win the three-match series to stay atop the International Cricket Council’s Test rankings ahead of South Africa.
West Indies hasn’t won an away Test in a country other than bottom-ranked Bangladesh since winning in South Africa in December 2007.
