Mercator Poslovni Sistem (MELR) d.d. named Toni Balazic to be chief executive officer of the Slovenian supermarket chain, Finance newspaper reported, without saying where it obtained the information.
Balazic, who’s been at the helm of food company Zito d.d., will take the position at the retailer beginning June 1. He will replace Ziga Debeljak, who stepped down in March over the disputed sale of Mercator to its Croatian rival Agrokor d.d., the Ljubljana-based newspaper said.
Agrokor plans to make another offer for Mercator, Zagreb- based Poslovni Dnevnik newspaper said on May 14 after Croatia’s largest private company abandoned its previous bid in February due to a protracted process.
