Devils Top Rangers 3-2 to Even NHL’s Eastern Conference Finals

May 16, 2012

David Clarkson’s goal early in the third period broke a tie and gave the New Jersey Devils a 3-2 victory against the host New York Rangers to tie the Eastern Conference finals at one game apiece.

Game 3 in the best-of-seven National Hockey League playoff series is set for May 18 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Ilya Kovalchuk had his sixth goal of the playoffs and Ryan Carter also scored for the Devils. Marc Staal and rookie Chris Kreider had goals for the Rangers in the game at Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers’ second goal, on a power play by Kreider midway through the second period, came following an eight-minute interruption when the door got stuck and the Devils’ Travis Zajac couldn’t get into the penalty box.

The winner of the series will play the Los Angeles Kings or the Phoenix Coyotes for the Stanley Cup. The Kings lead the Western Conference finals two games to none, with Game 3 scheduled for tomorrow night in Los Angeles.
