Duke University defeated Syracuse University 12-9 in the opening game of the National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s lacrosse championship.
Justin Turri, Robert Rotanz and Christian Walsh each scored three goals to lead third-ranked Duke in Durham, North Carolina. The Blue Devils will meet No. 6 Massachusetts or Colgate, who player later today, in the second round.
Top-seeded Loyola hosts Canisius and No. 8 North Carolina faces Denver in today’s other first-round games.
