The New York Jets invited 23 players to mini-camp for tryouts, including Matt Simms, the younger son of former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms, and Harvard linebacker Josue Ortiz, the Ivy League’s co-Player of the Year.
Simms, 23, played in 18 games at quarterback for the University of Tennessee the past two seasons, including 10 starts, and completed 140 of 257 passes for 1,779 yards and eight touchdowns, with eight interceptions.
Ortiz was selected the Ivy League’s defensive player of the year after collecting 10 sacks for Harvard.
