Germany’s Free Democratic Party, Chancellor Angela Merkel’s coalition ally, reached 5 percent of voting intentions for the first time since August 2011, according to a weekly poll by Bild am Sonntag.
Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union rose by one percentage point to 35 percent. The Social Democratic Party would attract 26 percent if national elections were held today, the poll shows. Emnid surveyed 2,742 people from April 19 to April 26 for the German newspaper.
