Carrefour May Eliminate Up to 5,000 French Jobs, Reuters Says

April 27, 2012

Carrefour SA (CA) Chief Executive Officer-designate Georges Plassat may cut 3,000 to 5,000 jobs at the retailer in France, Reuters reported, citing a representative of the Force Ouvriere union.

Plassat will meet unions on May 10, Reuters said, citing Dejan Terglav, the union official. Plassat joined the world’s second-largest retailer as chief operating officer this month and will become CEO in June.

Carrefour, based in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, declined to comment. Calls to Terglav’s mobile phone went unanswered.
