First Solar to Cut 2,000 Jobs, 30% of Workforce

First Solar Inc. (FSLR:US) said it plans to cut about 2,000 jobs, representing about 30 percent of its workforce, as part of a restructuring in response to deteriorating market conditions in Europe.

First Solar plans to close its manufacturing operations in Frankfurt, Germany, in the fourth quarter and intends to indefinitely idle four production lines at its manufacturing center in Kulim, Malaysia, on May 1, the Tempe, Arizona-based company said in a statement.
