Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Taiwan trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Taipei.
The benchmark Taiex Index rose 1.6 percent to 7,788.27, the biggest jump since Feb. 29. The gauge advanced 1.1 percent this week, the most in six weeks.
Light-emitting diode companies: Epistar Corp. (2448) (2448 TT) surged 6.9 percent to NT$80.20, the biggest advance since Feb. 22. Everlight Electronics Co. (2393) (2393 TT) jumped 6.9 percent to NT$65.50, the most since Feb. 21. The Ministry of Economic Affairs said in a statement yesterday the government is planning to replace current street lamps with LED models.
Largan Precision Co. (3008) (3008 TT) advanced 2.7 percent to NT$573, the highest close since March 30. The United Daily News said Largan’s second-quarter revenue may rise as much as 15 percent, citing analyst estimates. Chief Financial Office Lin En-Ping wasn’t immediately available for comment at his office.
