Russian Equity Movers: Mechel, Sberbank, VTB Group Are Active

The 30-stock Micex Index (INDEXCF) jumped 1.8 percent to 1,550.05 by the close in Moscow. The dollar- denominated RTS Index rallied 2.4 percent to 1,681.8.

The following are among the most active stocks in the Russian market today. Stock symbols are in parenthesis:

OAO Mechel (MTLR) (MTLR RX), Russia’s largest producer of coal for steelmakers, rose a third day after a watchdog declined to pull licenses for the company’s Southern Kuzbass unit, according to RIA Novosti. Mechel (MTLR) advanced 3.9 percent at 279.3 rubles.

OAO Sberbank (SBER) (SBER RX), Russia’s largest bank, climbed for a third day as the ruble strengthened against the dollar. The stock advanced 2.9 percent to 97.92 rubles.

VTB Group (VTBR) (VTBR RX), Russia’s second-largest bank, also increased a third day, adding 2 percent to 6.969 kopeks.
