Exxon Agrees With YPF to Tap Argentine Shale Oil, Cronista Says

March 29, 2012

Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM:US) agreed with Argentina’s YPF SA (YPFD) to tap shale oil deposits in the South American country, newspaper El Cronista said.

Exxon may jointly develop areas of YPF’s Vaca Muerta shale deposit in the southwest province of Neuquen, El Cronista said, without saying how it got the information. Exxon executives met with Argentine Energy Secretary Daniel Cameron in Buenos Aires last week, it said.

Exxon also met with Bridas Corp., controlled by the billionaire Bulgheroni family, to discuss the sale of its Campana refinery in Argentina, the newspaper said. Exxon’s sale of Campanas to Bridas awaits government approval, El Cronista said.
