March 29, 2012

Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Thailand trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Bangkok.

The SET Index (SET) slid 0.1 point, or less than 0.1 percent, to 1,203.91, falling for a second day. The gauge has risen 17 percent this quarter, the best start to a year since 2002.

Bangpakong Terminal Pcl (BTC) , a cargo company, rose 2.8 percent to 0.37 baht. Bangpakong plans to sell 15.9 percent of its Platinum Container Lines Co. unit, it said in a regulatory filing.

Dusit Thani Pcl (DTC) , a hotel operator, declined 2.2 percent to 34 baht. Dusit will stop hiring new workers because a planned increase in Thailand’s minimum wage will increase costs, Post Today reported, citing Chief Executive Officer Chanin Donavanik. A call to the company’s office in Bangkok wasn’t answered.

Pranda Jewelry Pcl (PRANDA) , a jewelry producer, rose 0.8 percent to 6.45 baht. The company’s first-quarter revenue will exceed last year’s because of strong demand in Asian markets, Krungthep Turakij reported, citing Chief Financial Officer Sunanta Tiasuwan. A call to the company’s office in Bangkok wasn’t answered.
