SPAIN DAYBOOK: Government Bill Sale, Budget Data, CaixaBank

Spain plans to sell as much as 3 billion euros ($4 billion) of bills.

WHAT TO WATCH: -- Sale of three-month and six-month government bills, results around 10:40 a.m. in Madrid. Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy to give news conference at 11 a.m. CET from Seoul.

ECONOMY: -- Economy Minister Luis de Guindos to be interviewed on RAC1 radio at 10 a.m., meets head of Catalan government, Artur Mas, at 1 p.m. The Budget Ministry to publish the central government’s budget balance in February.

GOVERNMENT: -- Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said yesterday the government will present on March 30 a “very austere” 2012 budget.

EQUITIES: -- CaixaBank said yesterday it agreed to buy Banca Civica for 977 million euros ($1.3 billion). The all-stock offer values Civica at 1.97 euros a share. Civica investors get five CaixaBank shares for every eight of their bank’s shares, is priced at 11 percent less than the March 23 closing price. -- Almirall SA (ALM) said yesterday that it and Menarini of Italy signed a licensing and commercial alliance for aclidinium to treat lungs effective for most of the European Union.
