South Africa beat New Zealand 1-0 in their best-of-three Test cricket series after the home team avoided defeat in the final match in Wellington.
Morne Morkel took all six wickets as New Zealand reached 200-6 on day five at the Basin Reserve to secure the draw after slumping to 83-5. Kane Williamson scored 102 not out to thwart the touring team’s victory push.
AB de Villiers earlier struck 68 off 49 balls to lift South Africa, which resumed at 75-0, to 189-3 in its second innings before captain Graeme Smith declared to set up the victory chance with his team 388 runs ahead.
The first Test in Dunedin was also drawn, while South Africa won the second match at Hamilton by nine wickets.
