Polish Banks May Turn to Mortgage-Backed Securities, Belka Says

Polish banks may need to start selling mortgage-backed securities to finance their property lending portfolios, central bank Governor Marek Belka said in an interview with Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.

Belka supports Polish banking regulator head Wojciech Kwasniak’s attempt to encourage banks with excess liquidity to lend more on the inter-banking market instead of depositing money in the central bank, Dziennik cited him as saying.
