JPMorgan Promotes Biben to General Counsel for Consumer Banking

March 27, 2012

JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM:US), the largest U.S. bank, elevated home-lending general counsel Matt Biben to head legal strategy for all of the firm’s consumer business.

Biben, who previously worked at Bank of New York Mellon Corp. (BK:US), will continue overseeing litigation and policy for mortgages while supervising the bank’s legal teams for credit cards, auto financing, student lending and consumer and business banking, according to an internal memo sent to employees today.

“Matt joined the firm last March as general counsel of mortgage banking and quickly added value, using his extensive experience to manage many of the complex regulatory challenges we face,” said the memo from General Counsel Stephen Cutler, mortgage-banking head Frank Bisignano, retail-banking chief Todd Maclin and Gordon Smith, who runs credit-card and auto lending.
