Monti Government Passes Law Decree on Bank Commissions

Prime Minister Mario Monti’s government passed a decree law today restoring the right of banks to charge commissions of up to 0.5 percent on loans and other credits, according to an e-mailed statement today.

The government also discussed the guidelines of an overhaul of the tax system, which will be approved in one of the next cabinet meeting, according to the statement.

The cabinet also approved two bills ratifying European treaties regarding the European Stability Mechanism and the so- called fiscal compact.
