Japan’s smartphone market may expand 19 percent next fiscal year as companies including Apple Inc. (AAPL) and Sony Corp. improve graphics and processing performance to win customers.
Industrywide shipments of smartphones in the country may rise to 27.9 million units in the 12 months ending March 2013 from an estimated 23.4 million this fiscal year, MM Research Institute Ltd. said in a statement today. The tally may rise to 35.6 million in the year ending March 2017, the Tokyo-based company said.
