The U.K. government has asked four bidders to submit proposals to supply about 60 new trains and build a depot in west London for the city’s Crossrail project.
The companies selected are Bombardier Inc. (BBD/B), Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles SA (CAF), Hitachi Ltd. (6501) and Siemens AG (SIE), Crossrail said in a statement on its website.
Bidders must demonstrate a “responsible procurement” policy, setting out how they will provide opportunities for training and work with small-to-medium-sized businesses, Transport Secretary Justine Greening told lawmakers today.
Bombardier, which operates Britain’s last train factory, has cut job after losing out to Germany’s Siemens in a previous tender. The government changed the procurement guidelines following a political outcry.
