S. African Miners’ Group Says Power-Blackout Risk ‘Very Real’

Feb. 22 (Bloomberg) -- The risk of electricity blackouts in South Africa is “very real,” the head of the Electricity Intensive Users Group said.
“We’re not being alarmist here, and Eskom has been very frank about it,” Mike Rossouw said in a speech in Johannesburg today. The group represents Xstrata Plc and BHP Billiton Ltd., among other large customers of utility Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd.
