Papademos Says Greeks Want to Remain in Euro Area, Official Says

February 20, 2012

Feb. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos told euro area finance ministers that approval of a second rescue package for Greece will boost confidence and reduce uncertainty felt by Greeks in their economy, a government official said.

The new economic plan, which includes austerity measures in return for a debt writedown and loans, will help restore competitiveness, the Greek premier told the ministers, according to the official. Papademos underlined the plan was supported by a two-thirds majority in the Greek parliament and by the two biggest political parties, said the official, who declined to be named.
