France Asks EU to Suspend Approval to Grow Monsanto MON810 Corn

Feb. 20 (Bloomberg) -- France has asked the European Commission, the European Union’s regulatory arm, to suspend approval to grow Monsanto Co.’s genetically modified corn MON810, the agriculture and environment ministries said.

The demand is based on recent scientific studies that show growing the corn variety poses “important risks” to the environment, the ministries wrote in an e-mailed statement today.
