Canadian Hog Herd Rises 1.1% in 2011; Cattle Supply Gains 0.5%

Feb. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Canada’s hog herd as of Jan. 1 increased 1.1 percent from a year earlier, Statistics Canada said. Cattle inventories also rose.
Producers held 12.02 million hogs, up from 11.895 million a year earlier, the government agency said in a report released today.
Canada’s cattle herd expanded 0.5 percent from a year earlier to12.515 million head on Jan. 1, Statistics Canada said today.
