Feb. 7 (Bloomberg) -- The European Commission wants Greece to remain in the euro area, commission spokesman Olivier Bailly told reporters in Brussels today.
“The commission position has not changed and is very clear,” he said in response to comments by European Union Digital Affairs Commissioner Neelie Kroes published today in an interview in Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. “We want Greece to remain in the euro area.”
“We are fully confident that the euro with survive the storm and come out of the crisis stronger,” Bailly said.
“It’s not true” that the euro zone will collapse if one country leaves, De Volkskrant reported, citing Kroes.
