BHP to Meet Contract Workers to Avert Strike at Escondida Mine

Feb. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Contract workers at the Escondida copper mine in Chile, the world’s largest, will meet with managers of the unit owned by BHP Billiton Ltd. tomorrow as they seek to settle a dispute over bonuses, union leader Jorge Marin said in an e-mailed statement today.

The contract workers may stage a 24-hour strike should talks fail, the statement said.
