Thai Cabinet Approves Increase in Starting Government Salaries

Jan. 31 (Bloomberg) -- Thailand’s Cabinet approved an increase of as much as 28 percent in the starting basic salary for government officials with effect from the beginning of this year, according to Worawit Jampeerat, head of the budget bureau.

The basic salary for an employee with a bachelor’s degree will be raised by 28 percent, while the rates for employees with master’s and doctorate degrees will be increased by 21 percent and 12 percent respectively, he told reporters in Bangkok today. The increase will cost the government about 5.6 billion baht ($181 million) this year.
