Jan. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Miriam Adelson, wife of Las Vegas Sands Corp. chairman Sheldon Adelson, is donating $5 million to a political action committee supporting former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, matching the donation of her husband, according to a person close to the casino executive.
Miriam Adelson requested that her donation be used to run ads in support of Gingrich’s presidential candidate, according to the person, who spoke only on condition of anonymity.
Her husband gave $5 million earlier this month to the same group. Sheldon Adelson is a longtime friend and supporter of Gingrich.
The PAC, Winning Our Future, used the first Adelson donation to finance ads in South Carolina before Gingrich won the primary on Jan. 21. The PAC also paid for a film criticizing Republican rival Mitt Romney’s stewardship at the private equity fund Bain Capital LLC, calling the former Massachusetts governor a “corporate raider” motivated by greed.
