Jan. 23 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks trimmed earlier gains, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average turning lower after rising above its highest closing level since May.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was little changed at 1,316.09 after climbing as much as 0.5 percent. Telephone, consumer-staples and health-care companies led declines, while financial shares trimmed earlier gains. The Dow slipped 6.55 points, or 0.1 percent, to 12,713.93 after earlier reaching 12,764.49.
