Spain May Miss Deficit Goal of 4.4 Percent, Montoro Tells FTD

Jan. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Spain may miss its deficit target of 4.4 percent of gross domestic product in 2012 amid signs that economic growth assumptions may fall short, the country’s Budget Minister Cristobal Montoro said in a pre-released interview with the Financial Times Deutschland newspaper.
The deficit target is based on an “old” forecast of 2.3 economic growth set by Spain’s previous government, Montoro is cited as saying. The new administration will await the outcome of new economic growth forecasts from the European Union Commission before commenting further on the deficit, he said.
Montoro said Spain needs two years to generate a level of economic growth that will create jobs
