One Dead After PDVSA Boat Sinks in Venezuela’s Lake Maracaibo

Jan. 12 (Bloomberg) -- A 54-year-old man died after a transportation boat belonging to state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela collided with a well in bad weather and sank in Lake Maracaibo, the state oil company said today.

Nine workers and contractors of PDVSA, as the company is known, were rescued and taken to a hospital in the Lagunillas section of the lake, located in the northwestern state of Zulia, the company said in a statement posted on its website today.

PDVSA is opening an enquiry to find out the cause of the accident, according to the statement.
