Jan. 11 (Bloomberg) -- The following companies had unusual price changes in Sao Paulo trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close of trading. Preferred shares are usually the most-traded class of stock.
The Bovespa index rose 0.3 percent to 59,962.40.
Hypermarcas SA (HYPE3 BS) slid 1.7 percent to 10.50 reais, after earlier losing as much as 6.8 percent. Banco BTG Pactual SA said it doesn’t plan to make a hostile bid for shares of the retailer, according to a regulatory filing. The bank earlier offered to buy a 1 billion reais ($555 million) stake in Hypermarcas, Bloomberg News reported yesterday.
Iochpe-Maxion SA (MYPK3 BS) rose 1.8 percent to 27.75 reais, the highest ever. The vehicle-parts maker said in a filing that its Amsted Maxion Fundicao e Equipamentos Ferroviarios SA unit has orders this year worth about 276 million reais.
MPX Energia SA (MPXE3 BS), the energy company controlled by billionaire Eike Batista, slid 5.9 percent to 46.11 reais. EON AG, Germany’s biggest utility, will pay 850 million reais for 10 percent of MPX and will create a power-generation joint venture.
