Jan. 4 (Bloomberg) -- China filed a formal protest to Japan over a visit by Japanese politicians to a disputed island chain and will “resolutely” defend its sovereignty over the territory, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said.
Four members of a local government assembly landed on one of the group of uninhabited islands, Kyodo News reported yesterday, citing Japan’s Coast Guard. China calls the chain the Diaoyu Islands, while Japan refers to them as the Senkaku Islands.
