ECB’s Mersch Says Unlimited Bond Buying Not Central Bank’s Role

Dec. 15 (Bloomberg) -- European Central Bank council member Yves Mersch said it is not the ECB’s task to conduct unlimited bond purchases.

The ECB’s bond-purchase program is “limited in volume and in time,” Mersch, who heads Luxembourg’s central bank, said on German ZDF television today. The program is a “stop-gap” until governments implement measures to solve the region’s debt crisis, he said.
