Dec. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Ukraine’s grain harvest was a record 57.9 million metric tons so far for this season through yesterday, the Agriculture Ministry said.
Grain was harvested from 99 percent of areas, the Kiev- based ministry said in e-mailed statement today. Corn was 22.3 million tons from 98 percent of planted area, it said.
Average corn yields rose to 6.38 tons a hectare (2.47 acres) from 4.59 tons a hectare a year earlier, the ministry said. Average grain yields rose to 3.8 tons a hectare from 2.85 tons a hectare.
Ukraine’s grain harvest will probably be over 55 million tons after drying and cleaning, Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, agriculture minister, said yesterday. Last year’s harvest was 39.2 million tons and the previous record was 53.3 million tons in 2008, according to state statistics.
