Dec. 14 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission member William Magwood voted to certify the AP1000 reactor from Toshiba Corp.’s Westinghouse electric unit, giving the five- member panel enough votes to approve the design.
Magwood voted Dec. 6 to certify the reactor design, according to a notification from the agency today. NRC Chairman Gregory Jaczko and Commissioner George Apostolakis already voted to approve the reactor design, which Southern Co. and Scana Corp. plan to build at existing plants.
