Gates, Chinese Ministry Partnership to Work on Drugs, Vaccines

Dec. 7 (Bloomberg) -- A partnership between the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and China’s Ministry of Science and Technology will work on drugs, vaccines and seeds diagnostics, Bill Gates, the foundation’s co-chair and also chairman of Microsoft Corp., said at a briefing in Beijing today.

Gates said the foundation and the Chinese ministry are in talks on how to make their agreement “come to life” and that he sees the partnership starting work “quickly.”

The partnership was first announced on Oct. 26 with the stated goal of reducing hunger and poverty in developing nations by funding research and development of health and agricultural products.
