Dec. 9 (Bloomberg) -- European Union President Herman Van Rompuy said the inter-governmental agreement may be backed by as many as 26 nations in the 27 member European Union.
“Our preference went to a full-fledged treaty change with 27 changing the treaties of the EU,” Van Rompuy said at a briefing in Brussels today after an EU leaders summit. “We tried it but because there wasn’t a unanimous decision, we have to take another decision. It’s even possible that we can have some kind of inter-governmental treaty with 26.”
