India’s Coal Demand Expected to Rise 41% in Five Years to 2017

Nov. 30 (Bloomberg) -- India’s annual coal demand may rise 41 percent in the year ending March 2017 from the current financial year, Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal told parliament in New Delhi today.
Coal demand is estimated to surge to 980.5 million metric tons from 696 million tons estimated this year, the minister said. Domestic output of coal is expected to rise 28 percent in the period, widening the supply-demand gap to 265.5 million tons, Jaiswal said.
