UN Security Council Condemns Attacks on U.K. Embassy in Tehran

November 29, 2011

Nov. 29 (Bloomberg) -- The United Nations Security Council today condemned “in the strongest terms” the attacks on the U.K.’s embassy in Tehran.

“Expressing their deep concern at such attacks, the members of the Security Council called on the Iranian authorities to protect diplomatic and consular property and personnel,” according to a statement read out by the rotating president of the 15-member body.

Iranian protesters stormed the British Embassy’s sites in Tehran, calling for “death to the U.K.” and burning its flag, a week after the U.S. and Britain imposed more sanctions over Iran’s nuclear program. Six workers at the main embassy downtown were freed after being surrounded by protesters, state-run Fars news said.
