Thailand to Waive Import Tariffs for Machinery, Autoparts, Cars

November 29, 2011

Nov. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Thailand’s Cabinet approved a plan to waive import tariffs for machinery, completed cars and autoparts to help companies affected by flooding, Industry Ministry Wannarat Charnnukul said.

The waivers will apply from Oct. 25 this year until June 30, 2012 and the volume of imports can’t exceed last year’s production, Wannarat told reporters in Bangkok today.

Honda Motor Co. is the only company eligible to import completed cars because its entire production facility was closed because of flooding, Wannarat said.
