Frieden Says Euro Area May Need to Exclude Members for Stability

November 29, 2011

Nov. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Luxembourg Finance Minister Luc Frieden said the euro area may need to kick out member states in order to achieve stability.

“We need stability and trust, so we need to help Greece and maybe other states under very strict conditions,” Frieden told reporters in Brussels today. “If these are not respected then we will need to intervene with sanctions and go as far as excluding a member state. That isn’t our goal, but if that is necessary than it has to happen.”
