Germany, Allies Seek Greater IMF Role in Fighting Debt Crisi

November 25, 2011

Nov. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Germany, Finland and the Netherlands suggested the International Monetary Fund get more involved in fighting Europe’s debt crisis.

Finance ministers of the three countries “are convinced” that with the euro region’s strengthened rescue fund and the IMF, “enough help can be made available to vulnerable member states,” they said in a joint statement distributed by the German Finance Ministry after talks in Berlin today. “We discussed ways to explore the improvement of IMF resources,” including bilateral loans or an increase in general resources.
