Nov. 24 (Bloomberg) -- LG Electronics Inc., the world’s third-largest handset maker, and Prada SpA said they renewed their partnership and will release a new smartphone next year.
The device, dubbed Prada phone by LG 3.0, will be released in early 2012, the companies said in an e-mailed statement today. The collaboration for the smartphone, whose price wasn’t disclosed, includes software, user interface, design and packaging.
“Our working relationship with Prada is unique in its longevity and success, something no other phone company and luxury brand have been able to replicate,” Park Jong Seok, head of LG’s mobile business, said in the statement.
The partnership between the South Korean company and the Italian fashion house, which began in 2006, resulted in two premium handsets including the world’s first touchscreen mobile phone in 2007, according to the statement.
